Sedimentary rock
Sedimentary rocks are formed at the earth's surface and with in the body of water by the accumulation and cementation of wreckage Agent (wreckage agent water, wind, ice, mass movement or glaciers) of earlier rocks(igneous and metamorphic rocks), minerals, and organisms or as chemical occasions and organic growths in water (sedimentation).
The sedimentary rocks are formed originally below the sea bed and then layer lifted up. The deposition, cementation and consolidation take place layer by layer beneath the ocean bed. At the same time the deposited and cemented material gets subjected to static pressure of water and becomes compact sedimentary rock layer.
Composition of sedimentary Rock
Sedimentary rocks cover 75% of the Earth's current surface in the form of layers or strata called bedding. .
The total volume of Sedimentary rock of the Earth Crust is estimated to be only 7.9%.
The Study of sedimentry rock provide important information about the surface that is us-full civil engineering construction such as dam, barrages, roads, houses, tunnels, canals and railway line.Sedimentry rock also important source of natural resources(Drinking Water, fossils, coal, and others)
The detail study of sedimentry rock is the main source to know about the Earth history,
the scientific study of sedimentory rock is sedimentology.
